What is Hemp Oil?

It is a natural compound found in the Hemp flower, a plant with a rich history as a medicine that dates back thousands of years. A safe and non-addictive substance, Cannabidiol is one of more than one hundred “phytocannabinoids”, which are exclusive to Hemp and give the plant its robust therapeutic profile. * Cannabidiol is closely related to another “Phytocannabinoid” Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound that causes the psychoactivity that cannabis is famous for. These are the two components of cannabis that have been studied the most by scientists.

Both Cannabidiol and Tetrahydrocannabinol may have significant therapeutic attributes. * But the difference between them is that Cannabidiol does not make a person feel “high” or intoxicated. This is because Cannabidiol and THC act in different ways on different receptors in the brain and body. Cannabidiol can actually decrease or neutralize the psychoactive effects of THC, depending on the amount of each compound that is consumed. Many people want the health benefits of cannabis without the psychoactivity, or with very little of it *.

Why was hemp federally illegal?

There are old laws related to hemp, however, all failed to make the distinction between Cannabis Sativa hemp and other varieties of Cannabis. These include the Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 and the Controlled Substances Act of 1970, which placed hemp on List 1. List 1 refers to the category of substances controlled by the government, which consists of drugs that can be abused and without real medical applications.

For years, Hemp remained under the same classification (List 1) with all other Illegal substances. This made growing hemp illegal. The 2018 Farm Bill clearly differentiates hemp from all other varieties of cannabis. That’s part of the excitement.
